Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra 1500 Single Turbo System
Bolt On 200+rwhp!!!
On 3 Performance is proud of our 2014-2018 Chevy / GMC 1500 5.3 single turbo system! This is the ultimate bolt on upgrade for your truck that most mechanically inclined individuals will be able to accomplish over a weekend. This is a true bolt on system that has the potential to increase your trucks horsepower by~250rwhp+. Our turbo system is a bolt on design that has a very clean and simple install. This is a perfect system for those looking to make the extra power to pull a camper or trailer that needs that extra push. During testing, we had our truck hooked up to our car trailer to get some real world testing data. We couldn't believe how well the truck pulled, night and day difference, all the torque you need is on demand. For those into street driving and drag racing, this system has you covered as well. That's what is so great about these turbo systems, they are very versatile. Once the turbo system is installed and setup, the drivability is not effected in a negative manner. If anything, it actually improves as the turbo, is very responsive and the On3 70mm is quick to make boost. So in light acceleration situations like merging on the highway, for instance, you will find yourself not pressing the gas pedal as hard-- with a much better throttle response. This is also due to the new found power your truck will be making mid-range as well.
Hot side Design: We started with our already proven platform and utilize the factory manifold on the driverside (Tubular Upgrades Available). From there we made a crossover that brings the exhaust over to our custom fabricated, cast stainless steel turbo manifold. This will clear your 4x4 (Z71) transfer case and driveshaft. Our 2014+ Truck systems will come with our newest Gen. 2 Cast Stainless header standard in every turbo system. This is an extremely durable design, around 2x as thick of material used when compared to your traditional hand fabricated turbo headers. This is going to provide you longevity and withstand the continuous heat cycles the truck will be put through. Each of the kits come standard with the On 3 Performance 70mm journal bearing turbocharger and we have options to go anywhere from the 70mm to our newest 76mm BMF. Also we stock many CNC billet wheel upgrades if you are looking for the highest quality and most aggressive profile wheels that we offer. These will make for a quicker spooling turbo, lighter, extended tip, as well as a stronger overall product. Also, for towing applications, we do have a few ceramic ball bearing variants. Our turbo manifold is unlike any others currently on the market. It is completely divided from bank to bank, it does not merge one bank into the back of another like most other truck designs. This is quite important when it comes to tuning the trucks as you will be able to accurately monitor each bank. This makes for a very cool looking and functional design we started 5-6 years back with our original 99-06 single turbo truck kits. With the truck engine bay being so open, we have a good amount of room to work with for the wastegate priority. We position it right at the t4 flange to keep good control over the boost. With our On 3 44mm V-banded wastegate on the prototype 5.3 test truck, we were able to hold it steady at 6psi. Clearly it will hold at higher amounts of boost, but as you know the wastegate is flowing more air volume at lower boost pressure so that is the real test. To expel all the exhaust from the turbo, we designed a 3.0" to 3.5" stepped downpipe from 304 stainless steel. This is all constructed from thick, 16-gauge wall tubing which has been proven itself to stand up to daily driving requirements. Working your way back from there, we also include an adapter to tie into the factory exhaust connection if required.
Note, while testing, the factory catback was EXTREMELY restrictive and a high flow catback system is almost required or open downpipe. Without getting deep into the drive pressure data vs. boost, its much easier to just upgrade if you plan to run much more than 5-6psi.
Cold Side Design: The complete cold side of our turbo system is designed using 3.0?, 304 all aluminum tubing to help dissipate heat, keep the IAT's as cool as possible and reduce weight. All the cold side tubing is bead rolled to keep the couplers tight when in boost. This will prevent the connections from popping couplers. To go the extra distance, we included stainless t-bolt clamps which provide more clamping power than your traditional worm clamps. All of our custom On 3 Performance silicone couplers are 5 ply and come standard in each turbo system. Our intercooler is a completely custom design using our proven Air-to-Air intercooler core. Since the factory grill limits the space we have to work with, we designed 2 different intercoolers. Our standard 3.5? core we include with each turbo system will support around 600rwhp before requiring you to upgrade. Our On3 Race Core is about 80% in volume larger and fills the entire grill but does require some trimming if you upgrade. Do you have to make 600+ to upgrade? NO! We run the race core on our shop truck to keep IATs to a minimum and cooler air is going to equal more power. Check out our photo gallery so you can see the comparison of the two units we sell with our turbo systems to make your decision. At 9psi and 500rwhp, our truck was seeing a rise of around 17 degrees during a full pull so it's more than adequate for most applications. The Race Core does look amazing and worth the upgrade in our opinion. Please let us know below in the options if you have a Silverado, or a Sierra.
Turbocharger & Feed/Drain Design: This system like any of our other On 3 Performance truck systems will come standard with our 70mm journal bearing turbocharger. We have a number of upgrade turbos you can go with and the most common upgrade is our On 3 76mm units. That's what we ran on our shop truck during testing, it's quick into boost, and will provide more room to go up as well. The factory On 3 Performance 70mm is good for 450-500rwhp application. If you are targeting more power than that, you will want to consider our larger upgrade units listed in our optional items section. For a 4.8L, this will be fine, but we strongly encourage you to upgrade to at least our 76/65mm if you have a 5.3L. On the 6.2L, you will need at least our 78/75mm turbo to avoid back pressure issues. For towing applications, we highly recommend using our ceramic ball bearing options. An industry first, we designed an optional oil drain system that will drain the turbo and pump it back through the oil fill cap. What makes this special? In all turbo applications, the turbocharger must gravity drain the oil back into your oil pan. Many of you are working on like New trucks and might not want to drill the oil pan. The solution is our optional turbo oil drain system with electric oil pump. With our system, it will gravity drain to the oil pump and then the pump will flow the oil back up to the oil fill cap. We have a custom CNC billet oil fill cap machined that allows for a very clean and factory appearing installation. This option can be selected in the optional items list for $235. This IS NOT required but some might want to go this route to avoid drilling the oil pan for your oil drain. We highly recommend this on any 4x4 application.
Power and Comparing to Blowers: This is what it all comes down to, you want to make the most power you can and keep it safe. Below are a few graphs to evaluate; the first one we will cover is comparing our 5.3 shop truck running the On 3 76mm turbo (8psi) to a twin screw blower 5.3 on 8psi. As you can see we are CRUSHING the numbers made with the blower, at 4,000rpm we are making 100 more rear wheel hp! Keep in mind we are running our small 76 / 65mm turbocharger, by upgrading to one of our turbochargers with the 75mm exhaust wheel, you will continue making power further into the graph and allow more peak HP. This was a test showing what's possible with the smaller options. RED Lines On Graph = On 3 Single Turbo HP/TQ BLUE Lines On Graph = Twin ScrewHP/TQ
This is our truck graph all by itself on 8psi:
Fueling Questions: Please read, we get endless messages on what needs upgraded to support the power. YES!!! The stock fuel pump on typical pump 91 or 93 octane fuel is going to be enough to support 500-550rwhp without having to upgrade. If you plan to run e85 or exceed those power numbers, you will end up needing fuel system upgrades. We have the charge pipe properly setup so it will allow the use of the factory mass air flow meter and have enough range for at least 12-15psi without maxing out. This allows for a very simple and quick bolt on upgrade that can make 500+ HP by bolting on at your house!
